La Rooted School di New Orleans conduce esperimenti annuali con gruppi di studenti, per osservare se una piccola somma di denaro sia in grado di migliorare i loro risultati scolastici. L’esperimento prevede l’erogazione di $50 (€45) a settimana per 40 settimane. Dal 2022, la ricerca coinvolge circa 470 studenti all’anno che frequentano tre scuole localizzate a New Orleans e Indianapolis.

Forty-seven Rooted School students in New Orleans are taking part in a study which provides $50 a week for 40 weeks and is helping teenagers do better in school. Since 2022, the study has included 470 participants, with 173 receiving the payments across three schools in New Orleans and Indianapolis.

I risultati hanno dimostrato che gli studenti che ricevono il denaro iniziano a frequentare le lezioni piu assiduamente, ottenendo di conseguenza voti più alti. L’anno prossimo l’esperimento si estenderà a 1.600 studenti dell’ultimo anno, con finanziamenti derivanti dall’iniziativa “Economic Mobility in Motion”.

The participating students have better attendance and earn more credits and higher GPAs. Next year, it will expand to 1,600 New Orleans high school seniors, with funding from the city’s “Economic Mobility in Motion Initiative.”
